It could be I did not follow this thread closely enough, I am not sure if
this will be much of an issue?
We will provide instructions that includes the OSGeo (or Boundless repo)
first - so for developers following our quick start they will not need to
download and install JAI.
For anyone *only* using maven central and picking up geotools they will get
instructions on how to download/install JAI. I expect this will only occur
for development teams using a Nexus to manage team dependencies (precisely
the kind of team that is cautious about using OSGeo repo).
Still I need to test the above idea - it could be there is some maven
precedence rules around maven central that I need to brush up on.
