To follow up, the PR was merged yesterday:
- References to ServiceRegistry static methods by way of FactoryRegistry
subclass (why do this). Ben has fixed with use of ServiceLocator (correct)
and I have a patch for review

- We had some build instability between ares and build.geoserver.org, I
wonder if they are tripping on each other :(
Andrea you mentioned some other issues with using Java 9, perhaps we
discuss in this weeks meeting.
