Thanks Martin and Graham!

I have been using the latest stable release (2.2.1), but this evening
I switched over to using the trunk build.

I have a feeling a proper solution will involve some configuration on
the tomcat side, as well as some modification to the geotools code to
get the correct datasource, but I need to learn more about JNDI,
Tomcat Configuration, and the Geotools source before I can really try
to solve it!

I got the same failure when I downloaded, compiled and deployed the
latest trunk code via maven this evening; have you commented out the
binding yet?

Thanks :-)
