GeoTools does not yet have curve support; let me check your link and see 
what manner of geometries shapefile is supposed to support ...

I see your point; and apparently I am mistaken. Since I did not write 
the shapefile code I imagine it will be fine :-) That said I do not see 
much scary in that page you linked to. Some interesting support for M 
(measurement?)
