Jody,

Well you were right at first about the attributes. I had a bug in my own
code causing the NullPointerException, but after I had fixed this and
checked my own attributes to be sure I still got the same error on the
same line in the Geotools code.

So I gave up and I have solved my problem by using a commercial tool...
:(

Therefore I will not continue to try to solve this problem, but I have
attached my class so that others can replicate the potential bug I ran
into.

It works as follows:

GISFeatures gisFeatures = new GISFeatures(URL MultiPointShapeURL);
gisFeatures.process();
gisFeatures.writeConvertedFeatures(ConvertMode.TO_POINT, File
newShapeFile);

Good luck!

Jeroen

I hope so - if it is not you have probably found a bug :-)

and MultiPoint what exactly do you mean? Do you mean GeoTools does not
support it?

GeoTools does not yet have curve support; let me check your link and see

what manner of geometries shapefile is supposed to support ...

I see your point; and apparently I am mistaken. Since I did not write
the shapefile code I imagine it will be fine :-) That said I do not see
much scary in that page you linked to. Some interesting support for M
(measurement?)

shapefile has a lot more shapetypes than the one you mention so can you
explain yourself a bit more?
