I have to say that I'm extremely allergic to legal treacle too.  But
it's hard to avoid.  For a few years, I contributed to wxWidgets
project and we all ended up signing agreements transferring copyright
to a foundation for safety's sake.

But maybe the definition of "trivial" (in Adrian's post) could be
fairly liberal ?  Otherwise useful contributions from outside the core
developers might dry up pretty quickly.
