I have committed this onto trunk; very little feedback ...
- wrapped it up in a ProcessFactory (so GeoServer Web Processing Service 
can offer this functionality)
- added a ProgressListener so the end-user can "cancel"
- split the one large method down into chunks so I could show how to use 
SubProgressMonitor
- factored out the createSchema( CoordinateReferenceSystem) so 
ProcessFactory could describe what the results looked like
