I won't work any further on the storage of metadata for our shapefiles. I'm
also writing the same data (and more) on HDF5 format where I had no problem
to add the metadata so it is not really needed.

I may work on the .shp.xml classes at some point in my life (if I find the
time to) as a personal project and your answers will help me. If you find
any other useful information on the subject, feel free to contact me.
