I saw your previous message but was hoping someone have a definitive
answer. Since nothing has surfaced, here is a fuzzy lead...

I have a (possibly unreliable) memory of this coming up during
discussion of the unsupported vector grids module on the
geotools-devel list last year or the year before. One use for that
module was to cook up a display of areas of validity for projections
in GeoServer. If you search through the geotools-dev list archives you
might find the relevant thread:

Alternatively, if Andrea or others read this they might be able to
give you a more useful lead.
