From what I can tell so far, it appears that they are focused on
linking directly to datasets, and not just the metadata about where
data might be. Geodata.gov has become more of a joke because it leads
you on a scavenger hunt when you're looking for data, rather than
pointing to the data itself. I would imagine that data.gov will
continue to add more than the 30 or 40 datasets that are there now.
I'm glad that they did launch it with whatever they had, rather than
waiting for all of the federal agencies to stop dragging their feet
and post their data.
