I am a lot less skeptical with regards to data.gov, for really no
scientific reasons. Geospatial One Stop indeed is not a very good
example of things to come. If anything, it may serve as a good
yardstick in that just about any attempt would be better than it.

And there is nothing wrong with the private sector setting an example
for the government to emulate and even surpass. They both have their
roles and objectives, and together they make for good coverage of the
needs of the users and, dare I say, even bring competition and
alternatives, always a good thing.

I believe this is a good thing. Time will tell.
