I wish I could click "Like" next to Iván's comments about NMAs. It's funny
to see the NMA experience is the same regardless of the N.

OSM's data model should be an OGC standard, not just the planet file. Of
course, the OSM community is moving to PBF as quickly as possible because
XML (in the Planet file) kind of sucks for their data model. So OGC should
look at that...

I suspect that this very conversation was what originally spurned Frank
Warmerdam to write the first version of GDAL/OGR. Instead of a universal
file format, why not just build a universal translator?

... Not to side track things... but the fact that ArcGIS Data
Interoperability relies on FME is actually quite hilarious. I just found
out (the hard way) that the current version of FME won't expose the UID
field in the OSM Planet File. Thank Guido for Python....
