Dear (Geo)wankers,

I'm pleased to announce that there is a new release of mapnik (0.2.5a), together with a new website - http://mapnik.org. For those who haven't come across it, one of the project's goals is to provide high-quality anti-aliasing rendering of geo data - think Google Maps as for USA and UK (and not Japan - yuk! horrid). But this is not the only goal :-P

This release offers:

  1. new build system
  2. new INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  3. new symbolizers (polygon/line patterns)
  4. lots of fixes.

There were a few postings on this list about ideas and projects for which mapnik can be a good companion IMHO. Just one example off the top of my head: Multi-Resolution Dataset Wiki - documents, scripts, how-to's - great! But why not give everyone Free software to render all those layers into AJAX viewer compatible tiles as well?

Feedback and comments are always welcome!

Best
Artem Pavlenko
