Umm?? I wasn't planning. But anyone with basic knowledge of Python can easily do that, with whatever schema they pleased! kaMap, Google, whatever.
Or if you do, then make sure it's the one everyone adopts! I think its time the community develops a common scheme.

Also, I encourage you to consider adding even the most basic ability to do WMS with Mapnik. Even if you only support WMS 1.0.0. It's not hard and the dividends to the community would be amplified.
I was thinking about coding a WMS demo e.g Mapnik+Twisted = WMS. But then again, there should be some fun (as in hacking) left for others, shouldn't there? But I take your point about standards.
