Thanks for the information. The possibility of compilation with GCC is encouraging. Are the old GNU build files available to work from perhaps? I hope someone will be able to have a go at it (sooner than I will be able to...) perhaps add an OGC geocoding service interface as well.

Hey Josh,

I'm not sure if this list will accept my post because I'm not a member.

Our commercial products are primarily for windows, so we have only
maintained MSVC projects for the Explorer Geocoder, however it is all
portable code and it has been compiled with GCC on Linux in the past.
It would not be difficult to do again at all.  We are hoping by open
sourcing we will get other people who have an interest in different
platforms and countries to port/help us port the product.  This is a
very high quality library, but it does need some more infrastructure
around it to be useful to lots of people.

The best place (for now) to ask questions about the geocoder would be
