Acquiring geo data closest to source has a (large) cost, which is
borne taxpayers, consumers looking at ads, volunteers, and what not.  If
google, or any other org. for that matter, paid $5 per update, say, 
I imagine more volunteers would turn up.  

That equation might also help make SDIs more sustainable.  If you
could turn your electricity metre backwards with the solar panels
on your roof, or with your exercise bicycle :-), would you?
