Off subject, re: dog meat

I used to work with an RN who immigrated from Vietnam when she was 12.
Once, another coworker was trying to give away puppies and Anna was
interested.  I teased, "NO! Don't give Anna a puppy!  She's Vietnamese and
they eat them!" (Please understand that I knew Anna very well and she
understood just how much respect I truly have for her culture. As a
Buddhist, she and I often joked that I had been Asian in a previous life.)
She told me that it was true that poor people eat dogs because they cannot
afford better meat.  She said, "I would always cry when I saw someone
leading a dog home from the market because I knew what would happen."  But
she assured me that dog was really low class meat...  (Not like gerbil
-)  )
