Members what mistake did you make?

Well, when I was younger, my family had two gerbils, and since I got my two last year, I discovered that the gerbils we had were in for sure death!  We had them in a home made double decker cage, with cedar, and lots of burlap for them to make nests out of and other various scary things.  Despite all this, the older one lived to be 4 and a half years, and the younger one would have lived longer than 3 years but died of a fall from my 8-year old hands. :(  Strange.
But for an update on my "clan" of two now, the formerly-purple one, Key, is now only purple on her rear and her nose, she started moulting from the middle out a few weeks ago, and now is turning a normal agouti.  Spoo has lost weight, finally, and is no longer a big butterball. :)  Oh, and I tried the chinchilla dust, and they didn't bathe in it so much as kick around in it, but they dig it when I sprinkle a bit on them every once in a while.  Makes them really fluffy! :)

Also, a quick question about PVC piping, would it be harmful for them to chew on?  Even if it's thick, they'll chew, and I was wondering if the chips would be harmful?

Thanks,
Kelly, Spoo, and Key
