I have gotten a lot of gerbils used to each other. Sometimes they do bite
very hard, and fingers seem to bleed a lot. Eventually they get along,
though, in my experience, which is only since last November. I did have one
who got injured so badly that I am keeping her, though. Some of them were
very dramatic about the whole territory thing, but they eventually calmed
down. Some of them were just mellow & curious and didn't take more than 12
hours.
I have had problems sometimes with gerbils climbing over the divider, but I
found that I could slow them down enough with duct tape on wire and lid
that nobody was badly injured if this happened. I also provide something
that can be hidden in on each side of the divider, in case of emergency, so
whoever is getting attacked (or changes their mind about the advisability
of attacking someone twice their size) can hide.
Hope this helps a little bit. It's hard to be patient sometimes. Like,
right now I would like for some more of my gerbs to hurry up and have
babies, but at the earliest it will be at least another week. =)
Good luck,
Rebecca...
