Let me tell you how we solved this problem as we have a notorious bottle
chewer too. I ductaped a metal jar lid to the top of the water bottle.
Mathias can get on top all he wants but he *can't* chew through the metal.
The ductape does get nibbled but does not seem to hurt Mathias and has been
in his cage for two months now.

Don't feel too sure of yourself... the little beggers are inventive.
