I had my first gerbils when I was about four. They were 2 Golden Agouti
Brothers (that's about the only color they had in pet stores at that time)
My parents bought me a hamster first and I wouldn't play with it because it
bit me all the time..so they read up on gerbils and bought me a pair (3
cheers for mom and dad for researching and getting 2 gerbils). After they
passed away I didn't have any gerbils for quite a while because I lived with
my grandparent since about 1st grade and they didn't like rodents. Then my
mom decided to get me a pair while I was visiting her in TN but one was ill
and we returned it. So I had only one gerbil for about a year. She got very
grouchy and nippy from living alone and I left her in TN the next year for
their Golden Retriever to watch (he loved that gerbil and the gerbil seemed
to like looking at him through the glass) That gerbil lived about 3-4 years.
Then I got a pair myself and the pet store gave me one of each sex by
accident and I became an overnight breeder. After I started college I sold
them all because I didn't have as much time as I would have liked. Finally I
bought 3 males from Evon and remembering how much I loved pups I started
researching and learned genetics and became a breeder. And here I am today
:) Hope that wasn't too boring for all of you..but that's my story.
