Just about anything natural should be okay and is actually encouraged for a
variety in their diet....but, as I believe has been discussed before -
sunflower seeds and such with a high oil content should be fed in restricted
quantities...and caution should be taken with open containers with just
about everything, they can get bugs/mold etc. and it's always best to play
it safe if you're not sure. I feed my gerbils anything from grass clippings
to frozen/fresh veggies to bird seed to cooked/cracked corn, etc. Although
caution must be taken with grass clippings to make sure it has not been
fertilized/sprayed.

I finally found a place within reach that sells animal
feed. They have 50 lb bags of cracked corn, oats, etc.
This would be ok to put in a mixture for my gerbs, right?
They also had wild bird seed which is much cheaper but I
think I read somewhere that wild bird seed can be dangerous,
something about the seeds being allowed to age too much ...
anybody know anything about this? They had a few open bins
of seeds too but I am a bit wary of buying anything that has
been open. Opinions, anyone?
