I now have 38 gerbils located in two bedrooms of my house.  I only clean
their tanks once every two weeks (there are 10 tanks in total) and I've
NEVER had a problem with a urine smell.  Are you using plain paper?  I've
noticed that with plain paper you have to change the bedding more frequently
than with aspen or carefresh.  I agree with Donna, these gerbils may have a
medical problem.
