Hi, Welcome to the GML.

I have 2 male

head

Sounds like you have a golden agouti (chipmunk looking one), I'm not sure
what the other one would be considered.

Where in the north do you live? 30-40 degrees isn't that cold, our winters
in the upper peninsula of Michigan get colder than that.

I know that they are desert creatures so how can i keep them

Are you planning on keeping them outside?

> 2. Can gerbils be taught tricks, and do they respond to their names?

I'm not sure about tricks, but I'm sure they get used to the sound of your
voice and may recognize a name.

> 3. What should i buy them to play with?

Wooden toys for them to climb on and chew on. Also give them paper towel
tubes and toilet paper tubes. They love running through them and chewing
them up. Almost any clean cardboard will work except egg cartons and food
boxes from the freezer.

it.

I do not think it is necessary for gerbils to have wheels. They get enough
exercise running around and scratching.

Enjoy your gerbils,, they are lots of fun. :o)
