The Gobi desert gets much colder than that (-40F). Make sure they can
bury themselves in loads of toilet tissue if they get cold and they will
be fine until the temperature gets ell below freezing.

Yes, and yes, if you work at it. But on the whole, they do what they
want to do.

Simply burrowing and digging will keep most gerbils occupied. They also
like to explore a lot.

Gerbils are not natural runners. In the wild they don't go far fro the
burrow. Digging is much more natural exercise. If you want them to run,
they need to be exploring.
