They do squeak, but a lot of it is outside the usual range of human
hearing. Maybe your gerbils are squeaking at a lower frequency than
normal for some reason.
When gerbils squeak in ways human hear it is usually because they are
pups, they are in serious pain, or they are fighting. IF none of these
apply, and they probably don't, I have no real idea. Sorry.
