  Yeah, I guess you're right.  I've never had problems with the
metal-tube-with-the-ball kind.  Personally, I think they're superior.  You
can get them at pets.com pretty cheap.

If you're talking about the glass drinking tube with the stopper, I've
never been able to get one of those to work reliably- you risk the gerbils
going without water if it stops dripping before you check it. A water
bottle with a metal ball in the tip is a much better alternative.
