for them to have an available water source. To mist the sides
of the aquarium or cage to provide 'dew' for the animal every
day, would cause lots of problems with soggy bedding and mold
and mildew forming. Henceforth it is easier and more economical
and healthier to offer a water bottle.
All gerbils NEED a water source.<
I always have a water bottle in my lone one year old female gerbil's
cage. Just in case if something happens and I can't get home for a day
or so (an emergency). But I have only seen Mousey drink from the bottle
twice, once when she was with us in my work van on a hot day and I
didn't have any fruit or veggies for her. Normally she has her choice of
fruits and veggies every day and looks forward to them. And never has
had diarrhea.
I still always keep a water bottle in the cage 'just in case', but now I
only clean it once a week, because she does not drink from it!
But of course she ALWAYS has access to one.
