My gerbils are more active at night than during the day. After supper is when
they seem most anxious/eager to come out. But they are definitely not nocturnal
(like my leopard gecko for instance) which would mean that they are in a deep
sleep all day long, and do not emerge until dark falls. If you give gerbils
lots of cardboard to gnaw or new objects to explore they will be very active any
time day or night. (If you ever bring them into a school or other show-and-tell
presentation you can get them to be very, very active by throwing in some of
their favorite things -- tubes, boxes, alpha, etc...) Donna
