Subject: Gerbils
Hi I'm from Singapore. I'm the owner of 2 lovable gerbils. I desperately =
need help and advice.
Last Saturday, my 2 male gerbils, Pixie and Rascal =
started fighting for no reason. I suspect however that it could be =
because of the smell of the hamsters I was keeping over the weekend for =
a friend. Perhaps you can help me to confirm this. Pixie was quite badly
injured, =
with bites on his rump, tail and sides. He was bleeding and his left =
hind foot was broken. On discovery, I immediately separated them. I have =
since been surfing the net for information on how I can reconcile the =
two of them. I would be grateful if you could share any relevant advice with
me. =
Specifically, I have some questions:
(1) Is it true that cagemates cannot be reintroduced after they have =
been separated for 24-48 hours?
(2) Is it true that once any two gerbils have drawn blood, they cannot =
be reconciled?
(3) How and when should I go about reconciliating the two gerbils? Would =
the splitcage method work? They have been living lovingly together for =
slightly less than 6 months. They are both less than a year old.
(4) Is they anything I should specifically look out for in nursing Pixie =
back to health? He is eating and drinking normally. It's been about 4 =
days. How long would he take to recover from the limp, and the missing =
patches of fur, beyond the length of time which I would be worried?
Thank you for your attention.
Regards,
Cynthia
