If they have fought to the point of drawing blood it is best to always
keep them apart.

If he is eating and drinking he will probably be OK. Look out for signs
of infection where he was bitten. it is rare but you may need to clean
the wounds and apply a topical antibiotic or antiseptic if infection
appears. As infection from gerbil wounds is rare it is probably best to
leave these alone unless there is any suppuration or swelling.
Please note that wounds from cats or other predators nearly always lead
to infection and need much more radical treatment.
