Hi all,

Well, my worst nightmare has become reality. My gerbs had a major fight last
night. They're both still alive, so I guess it's not totally my worst
nightmare.

Red I has got a big gash on her nose and one around her eye. The eye seems
fine. Black I doesn't seem to be hurt. I haven't been able to get a proper
look, but it seems that the blood on her came from Red I. I've read hydrogen
peroxide can be used to disinfect the wounds. How dilute should I make the
solution?

Since Red I seems to have come out the worst of the pair, would that
indicate that Black I was the aggressor? It wouldn't surprise me as Black I
has always had a bit of a psycho streak in her.

I didn't actually see the fight, so I don't know if they were doing that
rolling up in a ball thing. Don't know how significant the actual moves they
were pulling in combat are, but I suspect the wounds say it all.

I've put them in separate cages. Red I seems so depressed and lost. My heart
bleeds for her. Is there ever going to be a chance to reintroduce them? If
so, how long should I keep them apart before I try?

If they can't be reintroduced, that will be a pain as I don't really have
enough space for another tank. Would a permanent split cage work? I have a
15 gallon tank, so they would get 7.5 each. It might also give them a semi
form of companionship, or it might drive them mad....

If they need to be kept totally separate, I would want to give them some
companionship. If Black I was the agressor, I would feel uncomfortable
putting another gerb through the same treatment, does this mean that Black I
is now a permanent vicious loner and so I should just let her be on her own?

Many thanks to everyone for any help,

Stephen

ps. I have read a lot of answers to these questions on the list before, but
as always I've forgotten the details in the heat of the moment, and want to
make sure I do the right thing. Sorry for the repetition.
