Some gerbils are, I think, just more vocal than others.  I have a couple
that will "chirp" at me when they want attention.  Usually it's when
they're excited though.  I think I hear it most from my "singles"
sniffing around on my shirt after I've been handling other gerbils.  :)
If it sounds like a bird chirp I wouldn't worry, clicking sounds quite
different.
