Well, thank you to Angie & Donna for their helpful advice but now I guess

If the parents are comfortable with your presence, you should be able to
pick up the pups shortly after birth. Of course there isn't much you can do
with them at this point. Handeling them a few minutes a day will help them
to get used to you and they will be easier to handle. Pluse the parents will
be more comfortable with you.
