Cotton cloth is woven of fibers that don't easily break, not
to a hamster or gerbil they don't. The thread is fine, and the
fibers are finer. They can wrap around tight and cut very
fast...or not cut and just choke off the blood.
You are going to sooner or later subject your animals to
a painful amputation or death. So far you have been lucky.
Your luck will run out, and how will you feel when you find
your animal dead?
I hate to be mean about it, but it is a very serious threat
to them. Life threatening.
Forget using cloth and give them the unscented undyed
toilet tissue instead. Please. For their sake.
Besides, if there is 'dust' in the cage, it can be inhaled and
cause respiratory infection too. It's a no-win situation....
