Hi,

I agree with Susan. Registering a gerbil is not enough reason to raise
prices at this time. What make a gerbil worth more is a good pedigree and
temperament. When I wanted a pair of color points I paid more for them, and
had to go out of state. Obviously, a gerbil with excellent coloring, a
proven pedigree, and an gentle temperament will be price accordingly.

On the other hand one of my best breeding pairs, a beautiful Argente Cream
and Lilac, were first generation registered. I got the Lilac from a pet
store down south and the Argente Cream was a rescue. They and all their
pups were registered, but what did it mean? Their value was in their
beauty, temperament, and excellent parenting skills.

The day may come when the AGS is strong enough to begin restricting
registration, but at this time any gerbil can be registered. I do not
believe that a registered dog, cat, horse, or gerbil should be priced higher
simply because they are registered. However, registration, confirmation,
health, and temperament together increase their value.

Janet
