I have had pet store gerbils act like this, though neither of the three
pet-shoppers I have now do it.  All mine know all they have to do is
squirm and I'll put them down.  They don't have to resort to biting.
But a few of the pet-shoppers I've had in the past didn't seem to
realize this, and I couldn't ever seem to get them to learn it.  They
didn't bite, they just nipped.
