Cotton? Like compressed cotton waste, or cotton balls
(looks like polyfiberfill?)?
No, not cotton balls or polyfiber fill or the like. I knew this is
harmful for them a LONG time ago.
Good <sigh of relief> Thanks for that clarification. :)
IT was left over scraps of corduroy until Trinity got ahold of it and
shredded it so fine there was not a thread left. Of course, this was
several weeks ago, but then I read another post (of yours I think) talking
about cotton and the like and the whole 20 minute dissolve test, have since
(oh about 2 weeks ago or more, it's hard to keep track of time) changed the
bedding and only put in almost finished toilet rolls and the like as a
bedding treat. I use aspen as my main bedding, and the gerbils seem to like
this a lot.
Yes, they seem to like a toilet tissue roll with a few sheets left
on it. They delight in shredding off the tissue and carry it off
like solid gold to nestmake, then come back and chew up
that roll. :)
No need to get jumpy!
I just can't extoll the dangers enough, especially since they
sell packages of both the compressed cotton waste, and
the fluffy fiberfill stuff, labeled 'safe' and 'for use with hamsters
and gerbils' when it's NOT.
I should have been more specific as to when this happened, or maybe not
have mentioned it at all, in hindsight. But there's no need to assume I'm
using it on a daily basis and that I don't read each and every email on this
list and take the advice to heart.
Like I mentioned....I can't pounce enough BECAUSE of
all those that do think it's safe just because a) they've
been doing it for months and their animals are *just*
fine (until the day they come home to the nasty surprise)
and b) the manufacturer marks it *safe* and the pet store
*SELLS IT* so it must be ok.
Thank you for your pouncing and your concern.
Thank you for letting me air it for the new members of the
forum.
