If you would like to breed gerbils then I have a few comments that I would like to say you (I really wish I had someone
who said these things to me before we started to breed them)
1) Gerbils are so cute and loveable.....but they get REALLY expensive REALLY fast! We have a bit of luck that the
owner of the pet store that we frequent gives us really good deals on food and everything else he carries that we can use
for the babies. For 6 gerbils we are averaging around 60 bucks (canadian) a month (for cages, new cages if one of us accidently
breaks a cage...which has happened, food, treats, a gerbil breeders first aid kit, a regular gerbil first aid kit and anything and
everything else that comes up)
2) Vets are also expensive......and in smaller towns I have met ppl on here that know more then the vets here
3) It is HARD to find good homes for gerbils (and if you are going to breed then you have to find a GOOD home for them...and
pet stores are seldom* to be seen as a good home)
4) It is heart breaking to see the babies grow up and leave
Just a few things to think about.....plus I dont recomend that ppl breed any animal till they are experienced with the animal
Just my 2 cents worth
BTW Congrats on your two cuties :) (and EVERY gerbil is a cutie)

Skittles & Hoppy

*note- I say seldom because most pet stores have no clue what they are doing with gerbils....our babies came from a pet store
where the owner told us that cedar was perfectly fine for them, she picked them up by the end of their tails, has told ppl that
gerbil treats work great as their regular diet, and sells gerbils that are VERY afraid of ppl (it has taken 2 months to get the older ones
used to me and my boyfriend. But the pet store that we frequent knows VERY much about gerbils, has given us much information,
and when we brought the 2 babies we had been unable to find homes for and had no room for them at the time, he was very good about moving
them, gave them a large aquarium (a 20 gallon), and has spent time with them every day he is there (which is every day except
sundays) And gets to know any person well before he sells them the gerbils........
I know this is a sore spot to many ppl (gerbil breeders supplying pet stores) So i ask that if you want to get mad at me then please
do it to me privately.......I know it gets irritating seeing the fights on here......
Thanks
Heather

Hi everyone! I just joined this mailing list. I recently bought two gerbils
from a pet store. I'm hopeing one is a male and the other is a female. One is
black (Stardust) and the other is brown(Snickers) and some of her/his fur has
black at the end. I really want to bred gerbils. I can't seem to get my mom
to let me though =( Any ideas on convicing her? lol, anyways i better get
offline!
