I am a bit disappointed that the news of the list being closed by rice.edu has broken so early.
As we have some months of life yet I was planning to propose a structured transfer to another server. I have already registered the list as [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I am prepared to moderate, and was proposing to suggest some people who could help share the duties. I had in mind Michelle, although she has suggested she would not want to do so, Deb Rebel, as although not a list veteran like Michelle and I, she seems to always speak a lot of sense. Both are already active on Topica.com I believe.
I would also like to propose Janet Morrow to ensure AGS representation in the management of the list.
The list I have set up with Topica will allow full control over who posts, and will include a full archive. Additionally replies to messages will go straight to the list and not to the poster as this list does.
The only disadvantage of topica that I can see is that there is no digest version (I think) but you can view messages online as a webpage instead of receiving e-mail if you prefer.
As I said, this has already been set up, and I have started work on amending the GML website and the Charter. I was proposing that when things are ready, probably in about a week, I would invite everyone to subscribe to the new list. I would not advise people posting to the new list. Discussions should stay here until everyone has had an opportunity to get on the new list, which would probably take a couple of weeks. Then I can post here that everything is OK and we can immediately start posting to the new list and stop posting here.
I hope there is consensus with this planed approach.
