Thanks Kristian, I configured the proxy and tried maven clean again. But instead of getting a lot of java.net.ConnectionExceptions, I now get exceptions of the form:
java.lang.Exception: Can't get [file name] to c:\winnt\profiles\n164874\.maven\repository... Any more help would be much appreciated.
