There has been a recent change to ffmpeg to use the 4-byte length
format(see http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-cvslog/2011-March/035858.html).
This is included in the 0.6.90-rc0 release of ffpmeg, according to the
changelog (http://ffmpeg.org/releases/ffmpeg-0.6.90-rc0.changelog).
So files produced using this release of ffmpeg should work OK in the
Marantz CD player (I haven't tried this).

Using that release of ffmpeg, files do not work in the Marantz player. I
have tried it. It was referred to earlier:

http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/get_iplayer/2011-March/001194.html

Thanks for the pointer; I missed that part of the discussion. I think
there must be some other issue in that version of ffmpeg that's causing
problems with the Marantz. I'll try some experiments using a recent
version of ffmpeg with my Linn DS and report back.

I am now using a later version of ffmpeg:
FFmpeg version git-N-28888-g6f73d5e, Copyright (c) 2000-2011 the FFmpeg
developers built on Apr 5 2011 16:33:41 with gcc 4.2.4 (Ubuntu
4.2.4-1ubuntu4)
and have qt-faststart installed.

I cannot play m4a files downloaded with get_iplayer without using Jon's
script.
@ Simon
I can send you m4a files downloaded today with and without using Jon's
script if you wish to test further.

Thanks. I would be interested in trying these on my Linn DS.

  Simon
