Both drives are formatted as FAT32.
How are you managing > 4GB video files with the above file system on those drives?
The solution adopted in the satellite receiver is to break a recording up into 500MByte segments (about 10min at HD). If I need to download a file larger then 4GByte from get_iplayer or create such a file myself I'll have to do it to an internal NTFS drive. I can then use ffmpeg to split it into FAT32 compatible files so I can use the satellite receiver to play them.
You could also have asked me how I handle files with colons in the names. Even the BBC is now occasionally using colons in programme names. I guess the satellite receiver uses some flavour of Linux so it includes them in the file names. Removing them in Windows is a pain, especially if a programme is spread over 20 files. To my horror a few days ago I thought Windows 10 had removed support for Windows 95 short file names (Progra~1.mts). I then found a reminder about dir /x which displays the short file names, and I realised I had just got the name wrong.
