True. Is this a good thing? It makes me wonder why people think it's acceptable for companies to take advantage of them and then turn around and let their own companies take advantage of others.

As I was writing an earlier email I got a mental image of a freeway where there were pirates/hackers/crackers on one side and lawyers on the other side of the freeway. Going down the middle is the general population walking and for the most part minding their own business. The only problem is that both the lawyers and the pirates are throwing rocks at each other and neither side are very good at aiming... which of course means that the victims are you and me.

For an example, look at us with RB, most of us have bought into the "rapid release model" with little complaint - even though bug fixes do not occur until the next quarter at the soonest by which time your license may have expired so you are in essence paying for bug fixes).

I wish would could see a poll of everyone of RB's users to verify your (sadly, probably correct) assumptions. I also wonder how many have stopped--or soon will stop--using RB in favor of something else. Just because they're (apparently) relatively silent customers doesn't mean they're happy customers or even apathetic. It also doesn't mean they're gullible...

I certainly don't see it that way since every release has significant features that I am interested in. But I do wish that the releases were a little more rapid, such as big release after 3 months and then a quick release 3 to 4 weeks later which do not add any significant features.

We have all just accepted this proposal and hope for the best with each release.

This is another assumption. I have not renewed my license. However, I might, and probably will, reconsider when RB2007 is released. However, if their policies remain as they are now, I will do so unhappily.

If you don't care about the new features, then that is fine. I would much rather pay $50 for the year than the $200 or so that I have to pay for a year with a Pro license, but that has nothing to do with their maintenance plan. I pay much more than that every 18 months to keep up-to-date with Adobe Creative Suite software, and that is just as important (if not more so) to my business than REALbasic.
