GGI is not concerned with the image format in a file. There are conversion
libraries out there for this task. GGV came with a LibGBM, which handles
many bitmap formats. Should be on our webpage.

Umm - JPGs are very low quality actually, when you look closely. They are
o.k. for backgrounds or such, but for stuff that needs to be pixel-correct
like sprites, I'd use a lossless format like GIF (don't, its patented),
TIFF (don't, its very complicated, if you want to handle all cases),
PPM (good choice, very simple but no compression) or PNG (less simple but
compressed).
As said, for all of these, there are libs out there that handle them, and
P?M is so trivial to read, that it is quicker to code it yourself than to
use a library.
However I can send you a generic P?M reader (reads P1-P6) for LibGGI when
I'm back to work on monday. Shall I ?
