I'd say populate as needed, but keep a reference to avoid having e.g.
libgii/dist/sun and libggi/dist/solaris or something. I suppose LibGII could
be used as a reference, as it should be fairly portable.

*nod* should work anywhere anyway. Most differences are in placement of
startup files and such, and this is a) converging and b) no problem for us,
as we have no daemons or similar.
