Since it's a major UI change (search is a heavily function) I would rather not force this surprise on "senior users". Interested users can change the setting and new users get the bar anyway. I don't feel that "asking users" will get us anywhere. We don't have a forum where we can reach a significant portion, geany-users is the best bet but reflects only a small subset.
