A couple things:
* You should case-sensitively name your filetype file, e.g. `filetypes.JAL.conf`
* You should use the same case in `filetype_extensions.conf`, e.g. `JAL=*.jal;`
* Note that Geany doesn't re-detect filetype for open files, and saves the 
filetype in the session.  That means that to change the filetype of an open 
file, you either need to do it manually (document -> set filetype), or close 
*the file* and reopen it.
