I can only agree. I don't see anything wrong with the current logo.
Besides it is really high-contrast and by now probably established with
a lot of people. It shows what this is about (diff +++ and ---), while
the other logo doesn't say "GitX" but "Git".

So why subtle changes to the current logo might be possible (like iTunes
which slightly changes it logo every major release), a complete overhaul
might confuse users.

The logo should be flat (i.e. two-dimensional), with clearly defined
edges and should be created at at much lower resolution. I'd really like
to see somehow use this as the app-icon and send us a screenshot of it
in the dock next to other icons, and we can judge how well it looks and
can be recognized at low resolutions.
