There seems to be a derth of information out there for those of us with extreme hyperopia (around +5.00 and above).
I have had a lot of difficulty finding sunglasses that don't have distortion at the periphery - that is a distorted image when looking through anything but the center part of the lens. This issue should be familiar to all extreme hyperops but I'm not sure this affects the myopic. This phenomenon is do doubt due to two factors: 1. The size and curvature of the lens - the larger and more curved the lens, the greater the distortion. 2. The quality of the lens. Over the years, I've had optometrists insist that their brand of lens did not suffer this distortion, only to have most of them remade or scrapped altogether. The only lens maker I've had good luck with has been Seiko and their 1.67 aspheric lens - virtually distortion free - but of course they cost $350 a pair. None of the online retailers I've seen advertise the Seiko 1.67 aspheric lens as an option. My questions are: Does anyone have any experience with ordering +5.00, astigmatic lenses from these online discount retailers? What's your experience been like? Any peripheral distortion issues? Which lenses and retailers have you had the most luck with or can recommend? Which lenses and retailers do you not recommend? Any other related discussions are very welcome here - thank you.
